This Week In CloseBrace - 01/13/2017

This was a frustrating week from a coding standpoint because I spent a lot of time chasing bugs and rewriting systems I'd thought were done. Sometimes that's how it goes! The good news is, despite all of that, I managed to cross off nearly everything left on my "ready for beta testing" list. All I've got left is letting users delete their accounts, and working out a bug with avatar uploading. I'm confident I can get both of those working very soon, which means that I need to spend a bit of time researching deployment, and then I can get this thing on a live server and have people start pointing out everything I screwed up!

Good times.

So what happened this week? Well, I got the following done: account confirmation via email, lost password and reset password via email link, user profiles, editing user profiles, user avatar uploading (mostly), duplicate username/email checking, public user profiles, styling the contact us page, and the terms of service, privacy policy, and community guidelines pages. Not a bad week!

Next week's Tuesday update, which I will hopefully remember to write on Tuesday and not Wednesday, will likely cover deployment research. I'll be hosting the site on Digital Ocean, just like this blog, but if that's not your preferred host, don't worry – our first tutorial series will handle deployment to several popular platforms.

That's about it. If you'd like to be contacted when I'm looking for beta testers, please drop me a line at contact@closebrace.com and let me know! Beta testers will get some rewards, in addition to the knowledge that they helped get this site ready for prime time.
