It's a brand new year, and there's a lot in store for CloseBrace. I hope everyone had a warm and enjoyable holiday season and was able to rock in the New Year in the manner of their choosing!
We're back at it with Five Minute React, so here are this week's tutorials. First up, in Five Minute React 80 - Set Up a Server, we create a DigitalOcean "droplet" (a small cloud server) on which to deploy our app and make it available to the wider internet. Then, in Five Minute React 81 - Create a Superuser, we do the right thing and create a user with sudo privileges to log in as, instead of just doing everything as root.
Next week will bring Five Minute React 82 - Merging to Master, in which we'll get our develop branch merged to our master branch and then set up our server with git. After that, in Five Minute React 83 - Install Node and Mongo, we will—spoiler alert—install Node.JS and MongoDB on the server.
The video after that will be, I believe, the final video in the series. It'll be about securing MongoDB, and then launching our app. That's the only tutorial I have left to write / record, so depending on how fast I can get that done, I might actually roll it out ahead of its scheduled date (Tuesday, January 16th). We'll see how smoothly things go!
After that there will be a pause in tutorials as I figure out what the next steps are for CloseBrace. I can tell you what they won't be: another gigantic 83-episode series! We're going to chop things down to more manageable bites.
There's all kinds of stuff I want to cover, but I want to make sure that whatever I do cover, it's of value to my readers. Please let me know if there's something you're dying to learn in 2018.
That's about all I've got for this week. See you next Friday!
