This Week In CloseBrace - January 12th, 2018

It's been a spectacular week for CloseBrace. I've gotten an absolute ton of stuff done this week, including the final Five Minute React tutorial! I can't tell you how excited I am to get this thing wrapped up and move on to some other, shorter projects.

Tutorials

I posted the third-to-last and second-to-last Five Minute React tutorials this week. In Five Minute React 82 - Merging to Master, we cover merging our develop branch into the master branch and using git to get our application onto the server. After that, in Five Minute React 83 - Install Node and MongoDB, we get the necessary applications installed on our server that'll allow us to actually run MusicList.

Next week will bring the final episode, Five Minute React 84 - Secure MongoDB and Finalize, in which we make sure our database is secure and then wrap up a few final tasks before launching our app.

On Thursday, I'm going to post a short wrap-up video … and that's it! Five Minute React will be complete, and we'll move on to some other topics.

Moving Forward

So the question now is: what next for CloseBrace? The answer to that question is, obviously, more tutorials. The subject of those tutorials will be heavily influenced by a few things. The State of JavaScript survey for 2017, for one. My most-watched videos and most-read tutorials, for another. Reader feedback, for a third. As always, I encourage you to drop me a line via Twitter, Facebook, my contact form, the comments below, etc and let me know what you want to learn!

I'll be letting people know very soon what content's coming up next. Stay tuned!

Changes

A few things are going to change very soon. For one, I'm going to alter my weekly newsletter. Instead of being essentially a duplicate of this blog, it'll instead focus on providing useful JavaScript information every week. Tips and tricks, code snippets, patterns, micro-tutorials, links to JS news, etc. It will of course still contain links to any new tutorials I generate, as well. If you haven't subscribed, I recommend doing so using the box over on the right (or clicking here).

I'm also going to take a bit of time to do some cleanup on CloseBrace. I'm going to change the home page a lot (the "content magazine" approach just doesn't jive with what I'm trying to do), and I'm also going to improve the indices to help surface content. There'll be more changes moving forward in 2018, but those are still in the planning stages.

That's all I've got for this week. See you next Friday!
