This was a great week, from a productivity standpoint. First, I rolled out a bunch of improvements to the Five Minute React landing page, which I think really pops now (still playing with the wording, though).
After that, I decided to focus for a couple of days on really digging into React Native. I'm about a third of the way through building the app that you'll all build as you follow the tutorials. It's really fun to get things up and running on the phone. It ingests a podcast RSS feed now, and can play an MP3. Lot of work yet to go to complete the entire app, but it's really coming along! Here's a recent screenshot:
I also posted JS Quick Hits 11 - Object Shorthand, in which we take a look at a handy ES2015 feature that lets you reduce redundancy in your code. As always, if you sign up for my weekly newsletter, you'll get access to these tutorials five days in advance.
After that I moved on to writing, recording, and editing the tutorial for this Friday's newsletter (which went out a couple of hours ago), JS Quick Hits 12 - Arrow Functions Part 1. That'll go live next Wednesday.
In addition to all of that, I found time here and there to update both The Dead-Simple Step-By-Step Guide for Front-End Developers to Getting Up and Running With Node.JS, Express, and MongoDB and Creating a Simple RESTful Web App with Node.js, Express, and MongoDB to work with the latest version of Express and Express-Generator, which change some stuff around. I also have been working on updating Five Minute React to work well with the latest versions of several technologies, and am hoping to get those updates posted very soon.
Like I said … great week! See you next time.
