This Week In CloseBrace - March 2nd, 2018

It's been a good, productive week over here at CloseBrace. I'm excited about the changes I'm making to the site, and looking forward to debuting some of them for you all.

Tutorials

I posted this week's free tutorial, JS Quick Hits 6 - The Rest Operator, on Wednesday. In it, we talk about ES2015's new alternative to the arguments object in functions, and why it's often a better option. As always, readers of my free weekly newsletter got to read that tutorial / watch the video last Friday (and got a new one today which will go up on the site on Wednesday). You should totes sign up if you haven't already!

I'm also still working on the React Native course. That one's going to take me a while to build, but trust me, it'll be worth it. React Native is awesome and I fully believe that anyone who knows JavaScript can learn it easily, with the right help. I intend on providing that help!

Development

This week I focused a lot on redesigning the CloseBrace homepage. Currently it's kind of a nightmare. A whole ton of random tutorials, no explanation what the site does, no obvious "start here" approach … it's confusing and overwhelming for new readers. Those are not generally adjectives one wants associated with one's site, so I'm working to fix that! The new design is clean and focused.

I'm also toying with removing the sidebar entirely from CloseBrace subpages. With no ads on the site anymore, it's less necessary. Additionally, I think the Twitter feed's distracting. Just gotta figure out another way to promote the newsletter (that's not an obnoxious popup!).

That's about it for this week. Hoping to have that new homepage launched by the next time I write one of these posts!

See you next Friday.
